KEWSTATERC(5) File Formats Manual KEWSTATERC(5)

kewstaterc - persisted runtime state file for kew

~/.config/kew/kewstaterc (Linux/FreeBSD/Android), ~/Library/Preferences/kew/kewstaterc (macOS)

kewstaterc stores settings that kew(1) changes automatically at runtime as the user interacts with the application, such as toggling notifications or adjusting the volume. It uses the same INI-style syntax as kewrc(5): named sections in square brackets, each containing key=value pairs.

Unlike kewrc(5), which the user is expected to hand-edit, kew writes to kewstaterc itself whenever the corresponding in-app setting changes. Values in kewstaterc take precedence over the same-named keys in kewrc(5), so a setting changed from within kew will override its kewrc value on subsequent runs.

If kewstaterc is deleted, kew regenerates it with default values the next time it writes state.
